The Problem

The current unprecedented demand on the health services in Cornwall, especially in the acute setting, has the potential for demand to outstrip resources.

In manage resources, critically ill patients may need to be transported out of county to specialist areas that have enhanced capacity to care for them, 999 emergency ambulances are too precious of a resource to lose for inter hospital transfer.

The Problem

Very few private ambulance services are trained or equipped to deal with transportation of critically ill patients.

Our Solution

The Cornwall Ambulance Service Specialist Transfer and Retrieval Service (STaRS) will assist in alleviating acute-bed and 999-ambulance service pressure by transferring patients requiring further care to specialist out of county resources.

Cornwall Ambulance Service staff are expert acute care clinicians that are well skilled in supporting and managing of infectious patients. We use evidence based best practice to protect both our staff and the patient, as well as decontamination.
