Mark Woolcock

DIRECTOR OF GOVERNANCE

Mark is an experienced healthcare leader and Consultant Paramedic having worked across many domains of healthcare since 1989.

On joining the original Cornwall Ambulance Service in 1991 Mark worked at every clinical and operational role - starting as a care assistant and finishing as Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer for Cornwall. Additionally, in that time Mark worked on the air ambulance and held a variety of senior roles in the training and education teams.

Mark left the NHS ambulance service around 2005 and worked with a publisher on writing, editing and commissioning books allied to prehospital care. This involved being the editor of Nancy Caroline’s Emergency Care in the Streets 6th Ed, as well authoring and editing 22 other key texts and manuals.

In 2007 Mark joined the GP Out of Hours service in Cornwall, again work from being a clinician on shift, up to the role of CEO. During this time, Mark pioneered the use of paramedics in advanced practice, championing how paramedics were the future for delivering urgent care.Mark was a founder member of the College of Paramedics, the professional body for paramedics. He was a council member for the HCPC, and continues working with the Regulator in a Partner role. As well as stints with JRCALC, RCUK and ALSG steering committees, Mark has been instrumental in driving the profession forward, both nationally and internationally, where he has taken faculties and delivered courses - and established new faculties - in countries such as Greece, France, Italy, Bosnia, Ireland and the USA.

Over the past 15 years, Mark has specialised in the medico-legal aspects of prehospital medicine, writing reports and attending court alongside gaining his Masters of Law from Cardiff University. Mark was the first Consultant Paramedic in the South West region, and continues to work as Clinical Lead/ Consultant Paramedic for the Urgent Care Service. Within Cornwall Ambulance Service, Mark leads as the Director of Governance whilst also undertaking clinical duties as a Consultant Paramedic.
