Better care with solutions to support the NHS Long Term Plan

Supporting Commissioners to be innovative, agile and brave when identifying solutions to current and emerging urgent care needs that fall between traditional emergency ambulance and routine GP services.

Sustainability through innovative urgent care services

We understand the demands on the healthcare system in Cornwall and have created solutions to help alleviate the pressure on the emergency ambulance service, enabling that service to concentrate on responding to life threatening 999 calls.

Leaders and experts in the provision of urgent care

Cornwall Ambulance Service is managed and delivered by extremely experienced paramedics. We provide a level of skilled clinician and vehicles not provided by routine transport services.

The Problem

The Problem

Cornwall has a growing population of people aged over 65, however, the number of people supported in residential or nursing homes is in decline. This means that an increasing number of the most vulnerable older people will be living independently.

With increasing pressures on the emergency ambulance service, the requirement for a range of dedicated services addressing the urgent care needs of people in Cornwall has never been more important.

We believe that through innovation within the urgent care sector we can:

  • Assist the emergency ambulance service with their response times by delivering alternative care pathways for patients with lower acuity conditions,
  • Improve the patient experience by delivering professional, respectful and friendly services,
  • Improve the patient outome by responding to urgent demands in a patient centred and timely manner,
  • Reduce emergency department waiting times by managing demand through clinical support and appropriate referrals in the community,
  • Help create a sustainable, safe and efficient urgent healthcare system in Cornwall.
